Machu Picchu Receives “Safe Travels Stamp”

Machu Picchu receives “Safe Travels” Stamp! Great news for all would be Peru travelers and Machu Picchu hikers.
Peru entered a tiny group of countries that make Machu Picchu a part of “safe destinations for international travel.”
Machu Picchu has received the world’s first-ever global safety and hygiene stamp, known as “Safe Travels,” launched earlier this year by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
In order to commemorate this event, the official stamp was given in Machu Picchu. Since Peruvians like to do these events, adding a bit of flair, an Inca ceremony also took place preceding the award.
Peruvian Prime Minister Walter Martos led the event. It included the participation of Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rocio Barrios, Cusco Region Governor Jean-Paul Benavente, Machu Picchu Mayor Darwin Baca, and PromPeru Executive-President Luis Torres.
The Governor of Cusco, Jean-Paul Benavente stated “With this recognition, Cusco is foreseen to become —once again— the first safe tourist destination (in Peru) and to initiate the reactivation on a national scale,”.
The Safe Travels stamp —awarded by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC)— revolves around a set of protocols that follow guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO)
The focus is to have a general health policy for the tourism industry, thereby restoring travelers’ confidence.
The new status now provides very clear guidelines for the resumption of tourism on a global scale. More approved destinations seem to be on the way. The Safe Travels Stamp enables travelers to recognize destinations that have adopted standardized global health and hygiene protocols. This is so that incoming travelers can experience “‘Safe Travels” once again. Peru is now the third destination in the Latin American continent to receive the Safe Travels stamp, after Ecuador and Brazil.
